Test the circuit
We check brake output, connections, grounds, wiring, and magnets before recommending parts.
From a loose wire or worn magnet to complete brake-and-drum replacement, we test the system first and repair what your trailer actually needs.
Electric drum brake problems can look similar from the driver seat but have very different causes. A disconnected wire, poor ground, worn magnet, weak brake assembly, or damaged drum can all reduce braking power.
We begin with electrical and brake-output testing, then open the hubs when the diagnosis requires it. If a worn drum can still be reused, we will explain the tradeoff: new brake magnets may need a month or two of normal use to seat against the existing drum and reach their full potential.
These working ranges are for tandem-axle trailers and can only be narrowed after testing. A wiring repair costs far less than replacing brakes and drums on every wheel.
These ranges are based on common scenarios supplied by our shop and are not a quote. Parts prices, trailer condition, configuration, and labor can change the final cost.
We check brake output, connections, grounds, wiring, and magnets before recommending parts.
When needed, we inspect brake assemblies, magnet wear, drums, bearings, and seals.
We reconnect, adjust, or replace components and verify that the system is responding correctly.
We recommend servicing trailer brakes once a year. Combining brake service with bearing and seal service is usually the most efficient and cost-effective approach.
We can explain the likely range, but we cannot give a dependable repair total until the trailer is tested and, in some cases, the hubs are opened. A disconnected wire and a complete brake-and-drum replacement are very different repairs.
No. A drum with acceptable wear may be reusable. If the magnet has worn a deep groove or the drum is otherwise outside a serviceable condition, replacement may be the better option.
A new magnet may not initially contact a worn drum across its full surface. Normal use can help the magnet seat to the drum over the next month or two, depending on how often the trailer is used.
We keep most common electric drum brake assemblies in stock. Unusual sizes or heavy-duty configurations may need to be ordered.
Bring the trailer to our shop for a diagnosis and a repair plan based on the condition we find.
